Peter Menzel – Hungry Planet
WE ARE FACING THE BIGGEST SHIFT IN NUTRITIONAL CHANGE. WEEKLY FOOD OF 30 FAMILIES ACROSS THE WORLD.
These days, we are facing the most significant shift of food consumption and nutrition after the launch of agriculturing.
This is a result of fast food chains and suppliers (McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, etc.) that are available almost everywhere in the world. Secondly, worldwide extension, the development of increasing tourism and massive agri-industries are co-responsible for this shift by flooding stores and markets with exceptional diverse groceries (Menzelphoto, 2016).
Photographer Peter Menzel photo documented his journey to 24 countries across the world where he visited 30 families. Those families are depicted with their weekly groceries and foods. An accompanying detailed list of what has been shopped and the costs for it are captured in the book “Hungry Planet”.
The compared range goes from a six people family in Sudan who spend 79p a week to a German family (four people) who need more than 300 Pound to buy their foods (The Guardian, 2016).
